Getting Started: Books

There's a lot of great information available for free online.  The problem is locating and sorting through it.  A better, more efficient way to find setup information is with a book.  Here are a couple of my favourite RC books that you may want to read:

Essential Touring Car Guide

If you can only buy one book, this is the one I recommend.  I own and use this book regularly.  It walks you through everything from the initial assembly of your car, to learning a new track to chassis setup and more.  You can buy this book as a paperback or as a digital download.  I purchased the paperback version of the Touring Car book myself and bring it to the track every race day.  I also downloaded the 1/12 Scale and Off-Road Guides but find the download to be a less enjoyable reading experience than the paperback book.

Hudy Setup Book

XXX Main Chassis Setup Guide

This book was a game changer for me...It is what helped me understand weight transfer and the reason why we make the setup changes that we do.  Unfortunately, it is discontinued and difficult to find but if you ever have the opportunity to get your hands on a copy, I highly recommend it.  You may be able to download a copy on Scribd if it's still there or, if you ask nicely, I might let you look at mine at the track.

RC Maker Speed Secrets

This is another great book that I recommend if you can find a copy.  The only reason I wouldn't recommend it is that an updated version is included within the Essential Touring Car Guide mentioned above so if you intend to buy the Essential Guide, don't buy Speed Secrets as well.  The paperback version of Speed Secrets is no longer available but you can purchase a digital copy directly from RC Maker
